Yup yup! When Swifty released collabs with the National, Justin Vernon, Phoebe B, and other established (albeit smaller) artists on folklore / evermore, I felt the feeling you are describing here^. Like I’m happy to hear the tracks, but wonder about the relationship that created them. Is it a cash grab? I remember Justin Vernon didn’t show up to the awards show, maybe he’s never met Taylor, which I found to be telling.
That's cool, when I saw Swifty I thought you were gonna mention her beef with Ticketmaster. But yeah from what I see, those "smaller" artists get kind of a "one hit wonder" effect by being featured by the biggest artists...it's not sustaining enough to actually drive their career forward, and it does more for the big guy. Like Drake recently featured this guy named 4Batz and they had some tiktok song...I don't expect to ever hear from that guy again but Drake looks a lot cooler/gains a new audience just by doing that song
Very interesting and enlightening. I had no idea.
